About Jess
Hello, I'm Jess.
I grew up with cats, so they have always been part of the picture at home. When I was 16 I finally got the dogs I had wanted for years, and my two Border Collies were part of my life for 15 and 17 years. I have fostered animals along the way too, including two dogs, but it was cats that eventually stole my heart. My own four rescue cats have each come to me over the last few years, so I have had a lot of practice at careful introductions.
I started volunteering with Feline Fine Foundation as a fosterer, looking after three cats, before moving into their rehoming team. Cats in Distress came later, and with it a larger rescue and an even wider range of cats, personalities and circumstances. Between the two I helped to find homes for nearly 300 cats, which taught me there is no one size fits all approach to cats, and that trust is built slowly, at each cat's pace.
My experience as a primary school teacher has given me many skills that translate naturally into cat care, like patience, observation, organisation and, importantly, the ability to adapt my approach to suit each individual. Just as every child is different, every cat has their own personality, routine and needs, and I'm used to noticing the little things.
Teaching is my day job, but animals have always been a huge passion of mine. I feel very lucky to be trusted to care for people's cats, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know all the different personalities I meet. Whether a cat is confident and sociable or shy and nervous, I'm committed to providing calm, attentive and high-quality care tailored to them.
